Population Definitions
There are a number of terms which are important to understand in studying population.
 Crude Birth Rate (per 1,000 population) : Number of births in one year divided by mid-year population and multiply by 1000
 Crude Death Rate (per 1,000 population) : Number of deaths in one year divided by mid-year population and multiply by 1000.
 Natural Growth Rate (per cent) : Number of births minus number of deaths divided by mid-year population and multiply by 100.
 Infant Mortality Rate (per 1,000 live births) : Number of deaths of infants under age 1 in one year divided by total live births in that year and multiply by 1000.
 Total Fertililty Rate (TFR) : average number of children a woman would have throughout her reproductive ages, calculated by summing the age-specific fertililty rates of women in reproductive ages.
 Child Mortality Ratio (per 1,000 live births): Numbers of deaths of children under age 5 in one year divided by total live births in that year and multiply by 1,000.
 Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (per cent) : Percent of currently married women age 15-49 years using contraception.
 Active Life Expectancy at Sixty : Average number of years a person could expect to live after age sixty without restriction
in daily living activities i.e. eating, dressing, bathing, toileting and moving within the home by their own.
